In this episode of the Fierce as F*ck podcast, Amanda explains why using fear tactics as part of your marketing strategy is a misaligned way to run your business.
By now, we’ve all probably witnessed this kind of tactic in action more than once, such as in posts on social media platforms or in different online groups. Most recently, I had a client mention this tactic in one of our conversations. It’s not like this was the first time I heard such a scare tactic being used, but every single time I see or hear about it, I get angry.
Because you do NOT need to use scare tactics to conduct your business or sell your program or your services.
If you’re going to buy something, it should be because you can stand behind the product 100% and because it’s being sold from a place of integrity, not from a post that says, “if you don’t buy this, you will die tomorrow.”
As its name implies, a scare tactic is a strategy used to grab your attention, make you feel like what you’re doing is wrong, or just make you feel nervous. I urge you not to fall for it.
One of the main reasons scare tactics anger me is because they miseducate people. They make people think that they NEED a coach or a website or whatever, or they will fail epically. That’s why, sometimes, you have to put blinders on and just concentrate on you and the things that work and feel good to you, because everyone is going to voice their own opinion of what is “necessary” for a good business.
It's your decision whether or not you respond to scare tactics. But in my mind, it is SO much better to just follow your gut and your intuition, because your gut or your intuition is never going to steer you wrong.
“And you should think, OK, well, if they're trying to scare me into buying their products and services, what kind of person are they like? What kind of potential player, what type of coach are they going to be? No one should ever scare you into anything.” [08:43]
